Guilty or Not?

Is your website guilty of committing these offences?

Your website should create a great first impression and reflect your business well Online, but so many websites let the user down by committing the following completely avoidable offences:        

  • Not being able to contact customer service
    Easy access to a customer service number (or an instant chat facility) is vitally important to allow potential customers to engage, ask questions etc.
    It adds credibility and trustworthiness all very important factors in the online world.
  • Taking too long to load
    3 seconds doesn’t seem like a long time, that is until you are waiting for a website to load then it is waaaaay too long!
    Users want fast & instantaneous!
    40% of visitors will leave your website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. Check your site’s load speed and make sure you are super speedy!
  • It doesn't work on phones and/or tablets
    Today people access the internet via a variety of devices with a big increase in mobile and tablet. Ensure your site is fully accessible by users regardless of which platform they are using. Understand the difference between “mobile friendly” a “mobile site” and a “fully responsive” site. They are different and it’s about understanding what is the right fit versus cost for your business to implement.
  • There is too much text
    We like images and video’s, on average, users only read 28% of words on a page — so make them great words! Put images and video’s on site wherever possible you will get more engagement and increased conversions (But don’t forget about No 1 pet hate, load speeds, incorrectly sized images etc will slow a site down!)
  • Pop-ups....they are SO annoying!
    Unsurprisingly nearly 95% of people hate pop ups! So just don’t do it! Not sure I have ever spoken to someone who as a user has said “they’re great” If people want additional information make it very easy for them to ask, don’t get in their face.
  • Videos that autoplay without consent
    Seriously NO! There is nothing else that will get users hitting the back button or closing the site down quicker than a video suddenly bursting into life.
    So embarrassing to be caught out surfing the web looking for your next holiday when you should be working!

                 

Happy users are far more likely to become customers, it's never a good start to a relationship if you've managed to frustrate or annoy them at the first point of contact!
